Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Band/Choir/Orchestra Schedule Work?
Band/Choir/Orchestra meet every day during study hall. Students can easily participate in both Band and Choir, or both Orchestra and Choir: Mondays and Wednesdays they go to Choir, Tuesdays and Thursdays they go to Band or Orchestra, and Fridays alternate.
Does my child receive credit for taking Music Classes?
Yes! Band, Choir and Orchestra are regular classes that receive a grade. Most students find that their grade in music positively impacts their GPA
Does my child have to miss class for band or orchestra lessons?
No, all of the band and orchestra lessons will take place during the full group rehearsal time.
Can my child be in sports/other activities and still participate in band/choir/orchestra?
Yes, we have many athletes in band, choir and orchestra. All practices are during the school day, and you will receive a list of all our performance dates for the whole school year during the first week of school. If there are any conflicts, just let us know ahead of time so we can plan for it. We are very flexible and we realize kids have a life outside of school.
Do the Bands,Choirs and Orchestras go on any field trips?
Yes! We take many trips to see Broadway Musicals and Performing Groups in the Chicagoland Area. Some of the trips we’ve taken in the past include Hamilton, Blue Man Group, A Christmas Carol, Lion King, Wicked, Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, and many more.
Do the Bands, Choirs and Orchestras perform outside of school?
Yes, we occasionally perform at retirement communities, churches, universities and other schools. The 7th and 8th Grade Bands perform during the halftime show of a Huntley High School Football Game, and they march in the annual Homecoming Parade!
